Oil Change Questions We Get Asked Most
Do I need an appointment for an oil change?
Nope. Sterling Quick Lube is walk-in only. Drive up to 38222 Van Dyke Ave and we take you in the order you arrive. Most oil changes are finished in about 15 minutes.
What's included in a full-service oil change?
Fresh motor oil, a new oil filter on most vehicles, a free top-off of every major fluid, a free four-tire pressure check, and a free inspection of your engine air filter, cabin air filter and wiper blades. You get all of it on every visit, with every oil type.
How do I find out what it'll cost for my car?
Give us a call at (586) 795-4084 with your year, make and model. We'll look up the oil your vehicle takes and quote you in under a minute. You'll also get the exact total at the bay before we start, so nothing on the receipt is a surprise.
Is the oil filter really included?
Yes. A new oil filter is included with the oil change on most vehicles. A small number of cars use a specialty or cartridge filter that costs a little extra, and we will always quote that to you first.
How often should I change my oil?
As a general rule, conventional oil runs 3,000 to 5,000 miles and full synthetic runs 7,500 to 10,000 miles. Your owner's manual is always the final word. We put a reminder sticker on your windshield with your next service mileage before you pull out.
Should I use synthetic or conventional oil?
If your manufacturer requires full synthetic, use full synthetic. It protects turbocharged and modern engines far better and lasts roughly twice as long between changes. If your vehicle is older and runs fine on conventional, conventional is a perfectly good option. High-mileage oil is worth considering past about 75,000 miles. Tell us your vehicle and we'll tell you honestly what it needs.
Do you have a student discount?
Yes. Students save on both conventional and synthetic oil changes with a valid student ID. See our Back to School special for the current coupon and its terms.
What areas do you serve?
We're on Van Dyke Ave in Sterling Heights and regularly see drivers from Utica, Shelby Township, Warren, Clinton Township, Fraser, Macomb Township, Roseville and Troy.
